Manage your plan and billing

What you pay for, how to subscribe when you attach a second application, and how to update your payment method, find invoices, or cancel.

Manage your plan and billing

Billing belongs to the workspace, and only the workspace owner can see or change it. If you're a member, the Billing page doesn't appear for you, and the steps below that need a payment are marked for the owner.

What you pay for

strackt bills per application attached to a server:

  • Your first attached application is included.
  • Each further attached application costs €5/month, excl. VAT. Tax for your country is added on top at checkout.

What counts is whether an application is on a server — not how many you've created, and not how many environments it has:

Situation Counts toward your bill?
An application you created but haven't put on a server yet No
An application with an environment on a server Yes, one application
A second or third environment of an application that's already on a server No, it's still one application
A server that's offline Still counts — billing follows where your application lives, not whether the server is reachable

If you take an application off its server or remove it, it stops counting.

Open your billing settings

Go to Settings → Billing. You can also open the command palette and choose Go to billing, or press g then b. See The command palette.

At the top, a status card tells you where you stand:

Status What it means
Included allowance — "Nothing to pay yet" You're within the included application. There's nothing to set up.
Payment required — "Subscription required" You have more attached applications than are included, and no subscription yet.
Active subscription — "Billing active" You're subscribed and billed for attached applications beyond the included one.
Cancelling — "Subscription scheduled to cancel" You cancelled, and the subscription ends at the end of the current period.
Payment past due — "Payment failed" A payment didn't go through. Update your payment method.

Next to it is your monthly total, excluding VAT, and how many billable applications it covers.

The Cost breakdown panel shows the detail: Total applications, Included attachment allowance, Billable attached applications, and the Rate. When you're subscribed and a charge is scheduled, you also see Next charge (incl. tax) with its date. That amount is higher than the estimate above it, because it includes the tax due for your country.

Subscribe

While you're within the included application, the Billing page doesn't ask for a card and has no Subscribe button — there's nothing to pay for yet. You subscribe at the moment you need to: when you attach a second application to a server.

  1. Add an application as usual (see Add and deploy an application) and pick a server for it.
  2. If this is beyond your included application, the wizard shows Billing required — "Subscribe for this server attachment", with the included allowance and the monthly price for this application.
  3. Choose Subscribe & deploy. A secure checkout by Paddle opens. Paddle adds any tax due for your country at the final step and takes a VAT ID if you have one.
  4. After you pay, the application's page shows Activating while your subscription comes through. strackt then attaches the application to your server and starts its first deploy.

The same happens when you attach an application that's already in your workspace. On the application's page, pick a server on the Server card and choose Select server. If this is beyond your included application, the Paddle checkout opens right there, sized for this application. After you pay, the page shows Activating, then strackt attaches the application to that server and starts its first deploy.

Once you're subscribed, further applications attach without another checkout. Each one is added to your subscription, and you see what it costs before you click: the button reads, for example, Create application · +€5/month excl. VAT, and the line beside it gives your new monthly total. Nothing is charged at that moment. Your next bill includes a prorated share for the rest of the current period.

The same price appears wherever an action puts an application on a server: when you pick a server on an application's Server card, when you create an environment on a server for an application that isn't on one yet, and when you restore unused storage. Adding an environment to an application that's already on a server doesn't change your bill, so no price is shown.

Good to know about the checkout step:

  • The application is created before you pay, but it stays off your server until the subscription is active. Nothing is set up on the server until then.
  • Keep the application's page open until activation finishes. If it takes longer than usual, you'll see Check again. Checking again won't charge you twice.
  • If the subscription is active but the application couldn't be attached, the page says Subscription active — application not attached. Choose Try attaching again, or pick a different server.
  • If you close the checkout without paying, or the payment doesn't go through, the application is kept without a server. Choose Subscribe on the application's page to open the checkout again for the same server. If you've since left that page, pick the server on the application's Server card again.
  • If the checkout couldn't open at all, you haven't been charged. Choose Subscribe to try again, and contact support if it keeps happening.

If you're a member rather than the owner, the wizard shows Owner action required instead. Ask the workspace owner to add the application or attach it to a server.

Update your payment method

In the Payment method panel, choose Update. A secure Paddle checkout opens where you enter the new details. The page refreshes when you're done.

Update is available while you have a subscription, including when a payment is past due or the subscription is scheduled to cancel.

When it's available, the panel shows the payment method used for your most recent payment. It warns you if that card has expired, is about to expire, or was declined. The panel can also be empty even when you have a subscription. You can still use Update.

Find your invoices

The Invoices section lists your recent payments with their date, invoice number, status and amount. Choose PDF to download an invoice. A payment without an invoice number has no PDF.

Cancel or resume

To cancel, choose Cancel subscription at the bottom of the page and confirm. Nothing stops right away. Applications you've attached beyond the included one keep running until the end of the current billing period.

Until then, the page shows Subscription scheduled to cancel with a Resume subscription button. Resume before the date shown and everything carries on as before.

For what happens once a subscription ends or a payment fails, see What happens if billing lapses.

If you're on a Layover

A Layover is billed separately from your applications. Its server page offers Move to my server, or Keep on standby — €10/mo excl. VAT to keep it running. Only the owner can keep it on standby. When that payment completes, the page confirms Pad secured. See Start with a Layover.

Good to know

  • Billing is per workspace. Each workspace you own has its own billing, and its own included application. See Workspaces and members.
  • If the page says it couldn't load your live billing details, refresh in a moment. If it keeps happening, contact support.
  • Sometimes the number of applications you're charged for doesn't match what you have attached. When that happens, the Cost breakdown shows an extra Billed by Paddle row and a note telling you what to do. Usually strackt corrects it on its own. If a payment is outstanding, settle it first.
